Public Service
Mount
Olive serves as host to the Southeast Prep Football Program. We
provide a practice field, classroom space, meeting room, locker
room, and coaches staff room.
This well run program allows freshmen college students who are not in college full time to join
in the football program. Through playing the game of football, our young men travel to play regional
junior varsity teams. It is anticipated that of the 55-60 men who begin with us in summer practice,
40 will possibly win scholarships for college.
Students who are able to participate in Southeast Prep's program, have a number of advantages:
- No loss of college eligibility
- Exposure to and competition against other college junior varsity teams
- Game and practice video tapes are used to reinforce athletic techniques
- Provide additional year for growth and maturity
- Work to improve strength and agility in a supervised, monitored program.
These are a few highlights. I want to direct you to the Southeast Prep web page for
you to see how you can support and participate in this great program.

Bay Area Quilters
Mount Olive hosts the Bay Area Quilt Guild. This guild is not directly a program of the congregation, but we are pleased to have these folks use our facilities for programs each month.
The Guild began in 1985 with the purpose of sharing knowledge and the love of quilting, promoting interest and understanding of quilting in the community, and learning more about quilts and quilting.
Each year there is an annual quilt show in Pearland. The 2010 "A Day on the Coast" show will be April 8th & 9th at the Knights of Columbus Hall - Pearland, TX
Please check out their website: http://www.bayareaquiltguild.org/
Food Drive
As a community service project, we sponsor a Food Pantry
gathering each month. We purchase food (non-perishable) items to
be distributed to those in need. At times we have a small amount
on hand to assist a neighbor, but when our pantry is well-stocked,
we take items to Southeast Area Ministries (SEAM)
on Old Galveston Road, or Helping Hands in Pearland.
Any member of the neighborhood can assist in this worthwhile project by bringing suitable food items to our church office during the business day, or on Sundays. We will add these gifts to our "in gathering".
Our Flags
Mount Olive proudly displays our United States, the Texas State, and the Christian flags on our campus. We replace these flags about every 6 months due to wear.
On September 18, 2009, we began flying the United States and the Texas Flags in honor of Bo Becker with thanksgiving for his safe return service Afghanistan.
If a member of our congregation or community wishes to sponsor the flags for a period of time, please contact the church office. You may purchase flags yourself (5' X 8') and bring to the church for us to fly in memory or in thanksgiving for a loved one serving in our military, community, or another specific occasion.
We can purchase all three flags for about $60 each. If you prefer, we can order the flags for you, and fly them for you. We plan to recognize this honor on our website.
University of Houston Campus Food Service Project
Each year Mount Olive provides food for about 120 students at the University of Houston. Our Lutheran Campus Ministry serves on certain occasions to bring food to those who gather at the AB Bruce Religion Center on campus. This is our support to this ministry. This is a great opportunity for us to meet students on campus, and give support to our Lutheran Outreach efforts on the campus.
Pastor and Elisa are preparing to serve again on November 2nd. If you can assist us, please call the church office (281-922-5673).
