ABOUT US

Greetings to you in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ!

Thank you for visiting Mount Olive Lutheran Church on the Web! If you live in the Houston area, or plan to travel to Houston, I want to extend a personal invitation to join us for worship on Sunday.

You will find a warm and friendly welcome waiting for you each time you visit. I am now starting my 19th year of ministry at Mount Olive. It has been and is a joy to serve God's people here, and others who find a way to visit us. I am available by appointment for personal pastoral counseling any time night or day.

Mount Olive is served also by our Associate Pastor, Reverend Bob Sweet. Pastor Sweet has been an Ordained Pastor in our Synod a number of years. Currently, he has a full time position as a NASA engineer, but he assists with various assignments on a part time basis.

As a part of our worship experience, Pastor Sweet and I work to provide timely messages from the Word of God that you can use in your daily life. We want you to feel right at home among us. We would consider it a special privilege to share with you the riches of Jesus Christ and His Word.

We are not a large congregation, so it is not difficult for our members to get to know each other. We plan activities to help visitors assimilate into the life of the congregation.

We are a "traditional church," meaning that we use the worship services provided to us from our Lutheran Service Book. Using one of the Divine Services from The Lutheran Service Book, visitors find it easy to participate even from your first visit. We have a nice Baroque style pipe, and are served by a fine organist, Ms. Carol Oborn, who also directs our choir. At Mount Olive, we do not have an "Open Communion" policy. While we do welcome visitors to participate in the Lord's Supper if they are members of other LCMS congregations. Visitors from other Lutheran Churches can to have "guest privileges" at the altar after speaking with the pastor. Others may commune as quickly we can complete a brief review the primary doctrines of the Holy Scriptures.

We invite you to share in the life of our congregation, and grow with us as our Lord Jesus Christ draws us to Himself.

God's Richest Blessings in Christ!

Beliefs

To members and guests,

In 1932 some theologians of our synod prepared a document to summarize the theological teachings of our church. The document was called A Brief Statement. I have included this document for you to have a quick and concise understanding as to what we teach according to the Holy Scriptures.
