Greetings to you in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ!
Glad you found Mount Olive Lutheran Church on the Web! If you live in the Houston area, or plan to travel to Houston, let us extend a cordial invitation for you to join us for worship on Sundays. When you arrive, you will find a warm and friendly welcome waiting for you; and, lest we forget to mention, we serve complimentary pastries and hot coffee each Sunday morning! This will not help you lose weight, but you will feel right at home among us!
I am now beginning my 21st year of ministry at Mount Olive. When you visit you will understand why I enjoy serving here as Pastor. Not only is it a joy to serve God's people here, I also serve others who find a way to visit us. I am beginning my 26th year in the holy ministry, having received my Masters of Divinity degree, from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, class of 86.
Mount Olive is not a new congregation, but one which has 65 years of proud history. For many years we were located in the GulfGate community off I-45 S where we operated an Elementary School, and had close affiliation with Lutheran High School. Since 1994 we have our campus on Scarsdale Boulevard, 5 blocks from Beamer Road, Southeast Houston. We have an attractive sanctuary, fellowship hall, classrooms, and administrative offices. We are not a large congregation, so it is not difficult for our members to get to know each other. We plan activities that interest our members, and assist to assimilate visitors into the life of the congregation. The campus of Lutheran South Academy is located about a mile from us.
Our congregation is traditional in worship; conservative in theology. We have a nice Baroque style pipe organ to aid our worship atmosphere. We work to provide a rich worship experience! Our messages are timely, fitting for today's busy and confusing life. The spoken word comes from the written Word of God. We seek to apply the meanings of the timeless scriptures to our personal daily life. We would consider it a special privilege to share with you the riches of Jesus Christ and His Word.
At Mount Olive, we do not have an "Open Communion" policy. While we do welcome visitors to participate in the Lord's Supper, if they are members of other LCMS congregations. Such visitors have "guest privileges" at the altar. We encourage others to commune as quickly as possible by completing a brief review the primary doctrines of the Holy Scriptures. I currently teach this Inquirers' Class on Tuesdays, and Sunday evenings by request.
I am available by appointment for personal pastoral counseling any time night or day. Come grow with us, as our Lord Jesus Christ draws us to Himself.
God's Richest Blessings in Christ!
Beliefs
To members and guests,
In 1932 some theologians of our synod prepared a document to summarize the theological teachings of our church. The document was called A Brief Statement. I have included this document for you to have a quick and concise understanding as to what we teach according to the Holy Scriptures.
